Indian Web Expert uses a practical fact-checking process based on the risk and importance of a claim.
Primary-source preference
For app settings, government services, platform policies and official rules, we first look for the responsible organization’s own documentation. Screenshots and first-hand testing may be used where appropriate.
Cross-checking
When a claim is disputed, fast-changing or likely to affect an important decision, we try to confirm it using more than one reliable source rather than repeating a single viral post.
Dates and context
Many misleading claims are technically old rather than completely false. We check publication dates, effective dates, geographic scope and whether a rule applies to the reader described in the article.
Uncertainty
If reliable information is incomplete, we prefer to say what is known and what remains uncertain instead of filling the gap with a guess.
